30th of Tarsakh, 1492 DR – To Chase and (eventually) Catch a Thief, (Session 16):

Ajax, Dare, Lilvari, Mystic and Mercarri chased Grim Greycastle through town and into the deep woods as he tried to escape with Mystic’s flute. They ran for what seemed like forever. The grounds were treacherous, and several times members of the party were slowed by obstacles. Eventually Dare was able to get close enough to sink an arrow into Grim’s calf. Before Grim hit the ground, Dare had sunk another into his rear. The chase was over.

Lilvari, beyond angry from having to chase Grim for so long, finished him off with her eldritch blast then proceeded to kick at his lifeless body until it was unrecognizable. When her rage had finally subsided, Mystic searched him for her flute, but all that was to be found were a few gold pieces. She cried out in anguish. The flute that had been passed down from her grandfather was gone.

Livid by the turn of events, the party dragged Grim’s bloodied body back to town for all to see. There they told onlookers that this is what happens to thieves, and if anyone had information about the flute, they’d better tell them. All the threat did was mortify the villagers, a feeling that was further substantiated as Dare shoved Grim’s body into a nearby barrel. The party headed back to the tavern.

“And just this morning, they threatened Halia,” whispers one man to another, once the party is out of earshot. “Makes you wonder what they’ll do next.”
