23rd of Mirtul, 1492 DR – The Townmaster of Old Phandalin, (Session 46):

It’s almost as if the creature of shadows steals power from the orbs. The orbs dim as the creature strengthens. It sinks back down to floor-level. Lilvari, Dare and Mercarri begin to hear it’s whispers, whispers that command them to hurt themselves. Dare and Lilvari break free from the suggestion, but Mercarri does not. The others look on as she stares angrily at Lightbringer then swings it at her face. At the last moment she’s able to control her reflexes enough to dodge what would have been a devastating blow. The creature of shadows sinks below the stone floor, in hiding.

The orbs then attack simultaneously. The part takes damage but manages to dish out even more. Dare rushes an orb with Talon and ends its existence. Droop shoots fire bolts through a metal contraption, Mercarri uses her ever-faithful Shit Hammer and Ultorin uses his stealth to his advantage to surprise his foes. One by one the glowing orbs are destroyed. As each one crumbles to dust so does the urn holding it’s remains.

The creature of shadows reemerges from the floor and attacks Mystic as she attempts to run by. From its touch, she turns pale as ice and falls to the floor, unconscious. Lilvari and Droop turn their attention to the creature. Droop gets off two more blasts of fire. As it flails to avoid the flame, Lilvari strikes true. Cursebringer pierces its heart — or rather, where it’s heart would be. It screams out in fury and terror and pain. She twists the blade and concentrates on the magic within. The magic called forth gives some semblance of a mortal shell to the creature. Desilav Phanadlin appears in death as he had in life, and Lilvari uses the opportunity to grab his now physical form. She bashes his head into the stone altar again and again and again until there’s nothing left but a bloody wreck. Desilav Phandalin sinks to the floor. The battle is over.

Droop wastes no time in collecting a specimen from both the dead creature and some more powder that used to be the glowing orbs. The party takes time to recuperate. Ultorin stabilizes Mystic and the party goes through the treasures of the room — gold, silver and several objects of significant worth. Ultorin takes goggles that helps him perceive objects at great distances. Dare discovers that the silver flask he found earlier never empties and that the liquid held within can turn into whatever drink he wishes. Ultorin and Dare also carefully extract the bloodstone eyes from the lion statues.

Back to Phandalin…

Once the party arrives back in Phandalin, they visit Traubon to repair/replace some of their badly damaged armor. After, they head to the Lionshield Coster, where Ultorin purchases exchanges his for something better. They then retire to Tresendar Manor for the evening. As promised, Sildar arrives with the guards shortly after 8pm. Hopefully, with both guards present, the party will be able to find out who is lying and exactly what happened to Harbin Wester.
