21st – 22nd of Mirtul, 1492 DR – The Rockseeker Brothers, (Session 42):

The adventurers return to the room with the blockades and beds, where they can shut their eyes for a few hours. After tucking an unconscious (and handless) Black Spider into one of the corners, the party lay down to rest. Each one of them, though exhausted, has a fitful sleep plagued with nightmares. It seems that even their minds aren’t safe from the evil of this old mine. Their rest ends when the Black Spider comes to, screaming.

The party continues their search of Wave Echo Cave. Now that the Black Spider has been taken care of, their primary objective is to find Gundren and his brothers. They head back to the temple where they first met the Black Spider. The eastern side contains a hallway with a locked door. They use the key pilfered from the Black Spider to open it, but not before ramming his head into it, knocking him unconscious again. Inside the room, they find Gundren Rockseeker and his two brothers. Gundren and his brother Tharden are sitting over the third brother, Nundro. In tears, Gundren tells the adventurers that Nundro passed away a few hours ago. All three had suffered severe beatings from The Black Spider. It’s at this point that Gundren sees the Black Spider crumpled up on the floor behind the party. Enraged, he jumps up and rushes him, kicking him in the head, not stopping until he’s pulled off.

After putting their dead brother on the room’s only bed, Gundren and Tharden return to the temple’s main area with the adventurers. The adventurers go through the treasures of the room. Dare hoists Mystic on his shoulders to pry the emerald eyes loose from the large dwarf statue. As soon as an emerald’s removed, the pillars supporing the room collapse. The ceiling caves in on top of the party and the others — killing Tharden and the Black Spider in the process. Gundren barely escapes with his life. Tharden is carried back to the room where his dead brother lies and is laid to rest beside him. Injured and heartbroken all over again, Gundren decides to stay behind until the adventurers are ready to leave the mine.

The adventurers head south, passing a quiet lake and entering a small tunnel system. Mercarri, who’s taking up the rear, at some point hears a noise behind her. She turns around in time to see a very large, jelly-like creature trying to drop on her from the low ceiling. She’s fast enough to avoid it. The adventurers attack. Mercarri summons Shit Hammer and gets in the first hit. She follows it up with her new mace, LightBringer. Lilvari slices at it with Curse Bringer, but instead of bringing the usual death, Curse Bringer neatly carves the creature into two smaller ones. Dare rushes at the closest one with a lit torch, bludgeoning it and setting it alight. Both creatures lash out, doing devastating damage to Dare, who almost goes down and may have if not for Mystic’s healing abilities.

Now that they know that the creatures are immune to slashing weapons, they use their other talents to best them — Droop with his fire cannon, Mercarri with Shit Hammer and Lilvari with Eldritch Blast. The creatures fall, leaving the adventurers standing in the maze-like tunnels of Wave Echo Cave.
