With a plan and a purpose, the adventurers (all except for Ajax who is paralyzed) immediately bring the fight to Glass Staff. Lilvari uses her newfound magic to pull Glass Staff from his lair. They then surround him. He manages to hold his own for a few rounds, casting powerful magic that takes down Mystic and almost takes down Dare. Droop, the party’s new goblin friend/pet, gathers his courage and scurries from his hiding spot to try resuscitating Mystic. Unfortunately, he’s not skilled enough to do so. Ajax, at this point recovered from paralysis, pours a healing potion down Mystic’s throat, saving her life. Meanwhile, the rest of the party takes turns attacking Glass Staff. Dare, with cunning speed, swings Talon true and separates Glass Staff’s wrist from his arm. Glass Staff’s glass staff clatters to the ground and so does he, unconscious from the beating. Taking no chances, the party decides to break all the fingers on his other hand as well.
With Glass Staff taken care of, the party proceeds to search his lair. They find treasure, some chemicals used in invisibility potions, a dusty tome written in Dwarvish and most interesting, a note written by ‘The Black Spider’ addressed to Lord Iarno Albrek. Glass Staff, it turns out, is Iarno Albrek, the missing wizard Sildar was sent to Phandalin to find.
The adventurers leave the Redbrands hideout victorious, dragging Iarno behind them down the main road, unconscious. They bring him to Sildar at the townmaster’s hall where he’s locked in the jail downstairs. Ajax gives Sildar the note written by The Black Spider. Sildar pays them for a job well done and promises to let them know the moment Iarno wakes up so they can question him. Harbin Wester, the Townmaster, tells the adventurers that a party will be thrown in their honor.
The adventurers take a short rest and clean themselves up — a necessity after all the killing. Then they spend some time selling their treasures and haggling for equipment. They also try to find someone who can translate the Dwarvish tome. As it turns out, the book is a journal belonging to someone named Urmon. It tells the legend of The Phandelvar’s Pact and a magical mace named Lightbringer that is said to have been crafted at the Forge of Spells within the lost mine. According to legend, the mace is still there.
At Stonehill Inn, the adventurers eat dinner. Villagers slowly start to arrive for the celebration, offering the adventurers their thanks for freeing them of the RedBrand menace. It isn’t long until the inn is filled with people, everyone has a drink in their hand and Mystic starts entertaining the crowd with her flute. While the rest of the crowd is dancing and singing to the music, Halia Thornton — the owner of the Phandalin Miner’s Exchange — pulls up a chair next to the other adventurers. She’s curious of the plunder they found under Tresendar Manor, none more so than the note written by The Black Spider. She’s not deterred when the adventurers say they turned it over to Sildar. She offers them 150gp to snatch it from Sildar without his knowing. She also tells them that if they accomplish this task there is a chance for greater rewards.
After Mystic finishes playing and heads back to the table, a tall man dressed in dark blue robes sits down next to her. He congratulates them on their success but really seems interested in Mystic and her flute. He asks her where she’d come across such an interesting instrument. She tells him that it’s been in her family for ages but nothing more. It’s obvious that she is uncomfortable around this stranger. He asks to hold it, which she declines. He then offers to buy it outright and produces a pouch of gemstones. While he’s pulling the gems out, one drops to the floor. The group sees a strange marking on the inside of his forearm as he’s picking the gem up from the ground — a strange symbol carved into the flesh. It’s seeping blood. Quickly he recovers the gem and, his offer declined, puts it away. He’s definitely disappointed but understanding. He leaves the Inn in a hurry.
The night ends with the Townmaster giving a speech where he not only thanks the adventurers but gives them the deed to Transendar Manor. The adventurers are excited to check out their new dwelling and head there right after the party. They’re not inside for more than twenty minutes before a chunk of ceiling falls on Ajax’s head. This dilapidated, rat-infested pile of trash is in need of much repair, but its home.
