18th of Tarsakh, 1492 DR – Beneath Tresendar Manor, (Session 5):

Alas poor Peepers, I knew him!

The adventurers head north into a long, somber hallway fitted with a copper door to the west. The door green with age and adorned with carving of an angel. Dare, looking to get there in a hurry, fails to notice the loose tiles and triggers a trap. The floor falls away into a twenty foot deep pit. He manages to hang on and reach the other side. The rest of the party sidles the southern wall to safety. The next room is the Tresendar crypt with three sarcophagi. Each one has a skeleton leaning on it. The adventurers slide open the sarcophagi one by one and take the treasures they find within. As they approach the other connected doorways, the skeletons come to life, but they do not attack, not at first. The adventurers are disguised as Redbrands so their passage is not unexpected to the skeletons. What is unexpected is that the adventurers fail to offer the secret phrase that keeps the skeletons from attacking. The adventurers destroy the skeletons, turning them into heaps of bones and dust. Lilvari takes a couple of rib bones with her.

The room to the right holds three prisoners and two more Redbrands. The adventurers slay the Redbrands and rescue the prisoners. The prisoners are Mirna Dendrar and her two teenage children. Mirna tells of how the Redbrands killed her husband and kidnapped the three of them in the night. She is grateful for being rescued, and though she has no money, tells the adventurers about an emerald necklace she once owned as a child. She left it in Thundertree as she and her parents fled. The adventurers go back the way they came, leading the Dendrar’s to safety. To circumvent the pit, the adventurers smartly hold a rope across, which allows the Dendrars and then the women of the party to more easily get across. Not so for Mystic. The rope slips through Ajax’s fingers, and Mystic falls into the pit. Luckily she doesn’t sustain too serious an injury.

The adventurers lead the Dendrars out to the beginning of the cave entrance. A few horrible moments pass as they see the broken, half-eaten body of Thel (Mirna’s husband / the children’s father) lying in the ditch. But Lilvari slaps some sense into them, and they leave through the cave. Dare, meanwhile, has more ‘food’ for the Nothic, who Lilvari dubbed ‘Peepers’.

While exploring the cave, Dare crosses a bridge without checking it’s construction. It crumbles to the crevasse below. Dare isn’t hurt, however, because the Nothic who happened to be tending to its treasure chest beneath the bridge, breaks his fall. Outraged, it attacks. The adventurers slay the creature and take the contents of its treasure chest — items which include Talon, a magical Longsword.

The adventurers next head down the stairs to the north and while deciding which way to go, hear laughter and loud voices coming from behind the southern door…
